January’s Top 3 Posts: Single, Manhood, Intimacy

Here are the 3 posts that got the most traffic this month – some great content is found below that people clicked on to read and forward.

1 – Should I Have Remained Single?

For me and for anyone who has already committed to another person in marriage the answer is no, you shouldn’t have remained single. Paul states in 1 Corinthians 7:9 that you should get married rather than “burn with passion.” Some have said that this passage is about controlling sexual desire but it is more about the attraction to that significant person the Lord has placed in your life. If you have married then you have made a covenant before God. In no way does God desire you to break a promise you have made before Him and to another person.

2 – Being A Man

What does it take to be a man? A question I really began evaluating when Val and I found out we would be having a little boy and the opening segment of Dennis Rainey’s book Stepping Up, A Call to Courageous Manhood. Rainey’s opening illustration is what you would want a book on Christian masculinity to be. Citing the real life experience of Congressional Medal Recipient Gene “Red” Erwin from WWII. Rainey states, “In our hearts we know that part of the core of true manhood is courage.”

3 – Sex, What Its Not

Television, Movies, Music and every other media outlet in our culture defines sex as do whatever makes you feel the best. In the final chapter of The Meaning of Marriage  Keller paints the best picture of what sex is supposed to be. I have read books by Gary Chapman, Les & Leslie Parrot, Gary Thomas and others. No one has so frankly and biblically described what sex is. Simply, as Keller puts it sex is “for whole-life self-giving.”
